All the grapes used to make this wine were grown in a single 975 m plot, facing north, on shallow slate soils. It is located at 800 metres above sea level, on the V shaped valley formed by the Casio river, tributary of the Sil river. The vines were planted on a gentle slope in the year 1910. They are 113 years old! They are farmed following organic agriculture procedures though not officially certified.
Our Wine
The wine has a cherry red color with some brownish tones, clear ruby reflections and a low density.
Slowly unfolding, it stretches with balsamic aromas of undergrowth, among which rosemary stands out, followed by those of ripe, wild red fruit, and black fruit with plum skin and blackberry fragrance. Violets and slightly withered red roses offer elegant floral essences.
Aeration reveals a large volume of spices with black pepper at the forefront, followed by the elegant sweetness of black licorice; black is also the stone that serves as support, offering a base to the autumnal foliage; touches of talcum powder, roasted coffee beans and hints of ash draw a perfumed, fine and elegant nose, with a casual touch.
It has an elegant entry on the palate, with a direct and fruity attack (ripe black and wild red fruit) over a deceptively mellow background that ultimately grips you with power and intensity. Vegetal and spicy hints of ginger ale, along with a balanced mineral salinity, create layers of flavour.
Intense yet well-integrated and polished tannins, balanced with a sparkling citric acidity, build its structure with poise and agile character. It is deep, long, and persistent.
Useful tips:
The Bascois 2021 is a wine with a clear Burgundy profile, demonstrating impeccable and intense work in the vineyard and an intelligently and carefully designed aging process.
Very elegant and gastronomic, it will appeal to those who shy away from heavy, oak-dominated red wines that mask their finesse. Therefore, it’s a red wine that pairs equally well with meat and fish, enhancing vegetables and seafood, and is perfect for enjoying with stews and salads.
It’s also one of the few red wines that can be paired effortlessly with Asian dishes, spicy or not.
It is thoroughly enjoyable right now but we are certain it will beautifully evolve in the following years.
