The grapes used to make this wine come from four northeast-facing plots located in the area from which the wine takes its name, at an altitude of 600 meters. These plots are situated on slate, schist, and quartzite soils, on a very steep slope, and were planted between 1910 and 1929 using the traditional bush vine system. As with all the plots in this project, they are co-planted, with both red and white grape varieties growing together.
Our view
The wine has a very light cherry-red color with beautiful ruby highlights.
On the nose, wild red and black fruits intertwine: blueberries, cherries, currants, and blackberries, accompanied by hints of blue and white flowers, and the rustic notes of the forest floor with its aniseed herbs and damp earth.
Aeration brings out tertiary notes of tobacco, a touch of honey, and cocoa powder, which, combined with citrus touches, are reminiscent of orange bonbons. Some soft spices like cinnamon appear, along with spicier ones like various peppercorns, sprinkled over buttery dairy and flavored with a lovely, subtle hint of cherry liqueur. The background is of dark minerality.
A complex and well-integrated nose, with a diversity of nuances, yet always guided by delicate subtlety.
The entry on the palate is smooth, with polished, fruity tannins and a medium structure, without excessive bulk. The fruit is predominantly red, but subtly softened by the oak, which feels very respectful. Mineral notes gradually emerge with a delightful salinity, finishing once again with delicious red berries.
It is a direct, honest, and fresh wine, with a very balanced palate that expands, and a vertical acidity reminiscent of white wine, which is very well integrated. Elegant without being light.
